Cheap Flights from Sydney to Islamabad & Lahore

Islamabad and Lahore are two of the most-searched routes home for Pakistani families in Australia. Here is how to fly either for less.

For Pakistani families in Australia, Islamabad and Lahore are home. Both are among the most-searched flights out of the country, and both are routes where a little know-how saves real money. Here is how they work in 2026.

Every option is one stop

There are no direct flights from Australia to Pakistan, so every itinerary connects once through a hub. Plenty of airlines compete for these routes, which is what keeps fares down. The main options into Islamabad and Lahore:

  • Emirates via Dubai
  • Etihad via Abu Dhabi
  • Qatar Airways via Doha
  • Thai Airways via Bangkok
  • Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur
  • SriLankan Airlines via Colombo (common for Lahore)
  • China Southern via Guangzhou (Lahore)

A typical journey runs around 17 to 22 hours all-in, depending on the connection. The Gulf hubs (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha) are the most frequent and usually the most comfortable, while the Southeast Asian routings can be cheaper at certain times.

Islamabad vs Lahore

Both cities are served through the same main hubs, so the choice usually comes down to which is closer to family. Fares between the two can differ depending on the season and the airline, so if you are flexible on arrival city, tell us and we will price both.

When to book

Pakistan routes get busy around the same times each year:

  • Book six to ten weeks ahead for normal travel. This is usually where fares are lowest.
  • Book three to five months ahead for summer, Eid and December, the busiest periods for families flying home. Seats sell out early and prices only climb closer to the date.
  • If your dates are flexible, mid-week departures are often cheaper than weekends.

Baggage: where families most often overpay

Families flying to Pakistan are rarely travelling light. There are gifts, dry goods, and the extra suitcase that always appears before the trip. The cheapest online fare usually comes with the smallest baggage allowance, and buying extra at the airport is the most expensive way to do it.

On the fares we hold to Islamabad and Lahore, checked baggage is generous, so you can carry what you actually need without paying excess at the counter. Always compare the allowance against the fare before booking on price alone. To see how the main carriers stack up, read our airline baggage allowance guide.
