What Umrah from Australia costs

As a rough guide, an all-in Umrah package from Australia, covering flights, visa and hotels, typically runs somewhere between AUD 3,000 and AUD 8,000 per person. Where you land in that range depends on a few things:

Season. Ramadan, the Australian summer holidays (December to January) and Easter are the most expensive times.
Hotel distance from the Haram. A room within a short walk of Masjid al-Haram costs more than one a shuttle ride away.
Group or private. Travelling with a guided group is usually more economical than a private arrangement.

As a rough breakdown, return economy flights from Australia often sit around AUD 1,500 to 2,800, the visa and insurance around AUD 200 to 300, and hotels make up the rest. These are planning figures, not quotes; the real number depends on your dates and choices.

The visa and Nusuk in 2026

The system has changed in recent years, so here is where things stand at the time of writing:

Nusuk is the official platform. All pilgrims book their Umrah permit through the Nusuk app, whatever visa they hold. You will generally need your hotel and transport confirmed in Nusuk before the permit is issued.
The visa. Outside the Hajj season, Umrah can generally be performed on a Saudi tourist visa as well as a dedicated Umrah visa, provided the Nusuk permit is in place. The rules here move, so we confirm the right visa for your trip at the time of booking.
Vaccination. A meningococcal meningitis (ACWY) certificate is required for pilgrims, obtained at least ten days before arrival. Check the current health requirements before you travel.
Mahram. Women aged 18 and over can now perform Umrah without a male guardian. Some arrangements still place younger women in an approved group, which we can advise on.

The best time to go

Ramadan is the most spiritually rewarding time, and Umrah in Ramadan carries immense reward. It is also the most crowded and the most expensive, especially the last ten nights.
For cooler weather and lighter crowds, the winter months are the most comfortable.
For the lowest cost, the quieter off-peak windows, such as November and the period just after Hajj, tend to be cheapest. From Australia, avoid the December to January school holidays and Easter, which push prices up.

Flights: Jeddah or Madinah

There are no direct flights from Australia to Saudi Arabia, so you will connect once, usually through a Gulf hub, on Saudia, Emirates, Etihad or Qatar Airways. Which airport you fly into shapes your trip:

Into Madinah if you wish to begin or end with a visit to the Prophet's Mosque ﷺ.
Into Jeddah if you are heading straight to Makkah for Umrah first.
